About World Engineering Day
In 2018, the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) led a proposal to declare 4th March, the 50th anniversary of WFEO’s founding in 1968, as World Engineering Day.
Officially proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its 40th General Conference in 2019, World Engineering Day is now celebrated yearly, worldwide, on 4th March.
The creation of this annual celebration reflects years of deep collaboration between WFEO and UNESCO and the latter organization’s deep ties to engineering. UNESCO was founded in 1945 at London’s Institution of Civil Engineers, the world’s first professional engineering body.
WFEO, which UNESCO founded as a strategic partner organization in 1968, is an international, non-governmental organization representing the engineering profession worldwide. It comprises national engineering organizations from over 100 nations and represents some 30 million engineers globally.
